Not a bad day overall. Wondered this morning if Macca's promise that we'd be starting the season with a stronger squad than last season was right. Overall I think it is a stronger squad, even if we're simply refering to Rob Ward's physical presence !!! Not since Mick Godber have we had a player with his muscle upfront.

Caine Cheetham was looking a lot livelier today than he has done before for the side. Good to see him grabbing the winner, and unlucky not to score more. I think the fans were wondering if he was the player we all said he was, but if he carries on like this he'll win 'em over. Picko was back, and added his usual pace to the front line when he entered the fray. Pity Macca didn't keep Wardy on though, as I reckon we'd get a hatful if he played Wardy, Cheets and Picko together. A win is a win though so not complaining but I reckon we need maximum points from our opening couple of games (Borrowash at home on Tuesday) as Harrogate will be a toughie next Saturday.

I see Buxton scraped a win against Armthorpe. I thought Armthorpe might just scrape a point as they're a much underated tough nut to crack, but it wasn't to be.

Geoff was up in Kendal with Bethel's Boys today. I think Dunk was suspended, but no doubt they felt obliged to travel up as it was the opening fixture. Geoff couldn't resist his usual text messaging to the gang. Wonder who pays his mobile phone bill. Good result though as Kendal grabbed the points with a 3-2 win. No offence to Dunk or Geoff but let's hope we're swapping places with SPS at the end of the season.

Interesting conversation with Bill Towning before the game today. Good to see the club appreciate the efforts we're making at BTF. Am now thinking of how to expand and improve the site. Might wait until after Xmas when I've bought the new PC, but Tripod is simple and we're established here so the best option might be to upgrade with them. Good to see the Forum being used too. Always a good way of stimulating interest in the club, but just a pity the attendance today didn't match it.
